About Serani
Award-winning Filmmaker & Photographer
Serani is an award-winning director, photographer, and creative force whose career spans continents, mediums, and reinventions. She began in 1991, working in production on international films alongside industry heavyweights like Bruce Beresford, Sean Connery, and Eric Roberts. That high-energy start led to directing music videos for Sony BMG and EMI Records in the 90s, where she honed her distinctive eye for striking, emotionally resonant visuals.
In 2011, she won a Mofilm Super Bowl award for a bold comedic commercial for Chevrolet, marking her as a director with both visual precision and a sharp storytelling instinct.
Her first narrative short, Iceville—a dark comedy-drama shot in Bangkok—delved into human absurdity with both bite and nuance. She later served as executive producer for Production Inc. in Prague, launching and spearheading their commercial division. The company co-produced films like Quentin Tarantino’s Hostel and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, offering Serani a high-stakes environment to expand her creative and strategic range.
After stepping away from the industry for a break, she returned in 2025 with a renewed creative lens - as a photographer. Her still work is often cinematic, intimate, and centered on women. Whether through raw portraiture, editorial stylings, or beauty-focused narratives, Serani’s photography resists easy categorization.
Her return to filmmaking came with "Rising to the Surface", a deeply personal, one-minute underwater short that reflects her own journey through PTSD and creative resurgence. More than a film, it’s a quiet yet powerful act of reclamation - and a signal that she’s not just back, but creating on her own terms.
